Holiday Flambé
date: 12/04
media: inked drawing, colored in Photoshop 7
dimensions: 6x10 inches, 300 dpi

My 2004 Christmas card, which I finished Christmas morning. A quick coloring job - took me 4-5 hours, after I inked the drawings and got them scanned.

There's a little family joke in this one. When my family has our Christmas party, we typically offer plain egg nog and egg nog with "nog" in it - the "nog" being rum or some sort of potent alcohol. The green dragon, as you might notice, is just having "nog", which might have contributed to the violent incineration of the Christmas tree.

I think Christmas would be a very difficult time for dragons, what with all the flamable cards and gift wrap and such. I was going to have a little thought bubble over the gold dragon saying "First the cards, now the tree!" The inside of my card read, "May your holidays be warm and bright." Ha ha.

Jennie, this is awesome! The dragons are great, especially their expressions. I love the little knight, too - he's so cute! Ooh, and I like the background.
Anyway, never left a message here for you before, so I thought it might be fun.
See you at work. bleh!

dragon Jennie says: ha ha - I will have to give you a card . . . whenever I get more ink and paper for the printer. :-P Don't think of it as a late Christmas card, think of it as a really, really, early card. Please.

I love this one! I've been visiting your site every couple of months or so for over a year now, and it's always exciting to see new pieces. I think this is my favorite so far! I love their expressions, and the coloring is fantastic. Thanks for lighting up my day.

palette Jennie says: Thanks very much - it's good to hear stuff like that.

Mwahahahahaha! I tried to draw this same idea once, but it didn't turn out nearly as well (I think my second character was an elf, not another dragon, and there was no nog. Other than that, it was identical. Also, mine was set outside.). Anywho, this is hilarious, very apt. Other inane comments here. Also, you didn't send ME one of these! I'm mortally offended and would never speak to you again if it weren't for the fact that I'm making you move to Alaska.

Warning noted! I'd be sad to find rabid squirrles on my doorstep. squirrel Anyway, I think this is adorable. Christmas is a very accident oriented time of year at our family gatherings. It's heartening to know we aren't the only ones with that problem! hehe I've become a big fan of your website, and have mentioned it to several of my friends. You have amazing talent, continue drawing these incredible pieces!

smile I was at the Fair yesterday and didn't see you or Ellen, though I sometimes can't see the forest for the trees. I do visit your drawings often though I seldom leave comments. I hope Ellen wasn't kidding when she said she was making you move to Alaska. We always need more Artists here. And by the way the drawing is great as always. Skip
